CPNJ prioritizes Community Outreach

Numerous studies indicate that incorporating arts and culture into inner cities not only enhances the safety and security of the community but also fosters civic pride and a stronger sense of community. At CPNJ, we understand this and make it a part of our commitment to Trenton through our dedication to artistic and professional excellence, inclusive and diverse programming, vibrant neighborhood concert events, and captivating performances held at one of Trenton’s iconic and historical artistic hubs, the War Memorial.

Community Outreach

1

Trenton Music Makers

During the 2022-2023 Season, CPNJ hosted Trenton Music Makers' most advanced orchestra prior to our March concert at the War Memorial. They were treated to a master class given by three of our musicians, had the opportunity to perform a curtain-raiser for our audience, and were all given a complimentary ticket to the concert.

2

The Trenton Children’s Chorus

CPNJ was able to provide an excellent experience for the Trenton Children's Chorus in our production of Nutcracker. They worked with Maestro Daniel Spalding in a rehearsal at their venue before the dress rehearsal at the War Memorial. Having the chance to sing with a professional orchestra for the American Repertory Ballet was certainly memorable for these young aspiring musicians.

3

Sprout University of the Arts

Sprout U School of the Arts engages children from infancy to grade 12 in joyful, meaningful and creative learning through an adventurous, experiential curriculum. Every season, CPNJ offers complimentary tickets to Sprout U students and their families. We have also brought a small group of our orchestra musicians to the school and given educational music presentations.

4

International Charter School of Trenton

International Charter School of Trenton was created to provide a quality elementary education for Trenton City residents. CPNJ has given many in-school programs to their students. This past season, we brought principal dancers from ARB along with 5 of our orchestra musicians and presented parts of the NUTCRACKER to their students. ARB’s dance captain also worked with the students and taught them the basic positions in ballet!

5

The Father Center

Building a foundation of hope for the future, The Father Center of New Jersey provides innovative programs and services to support men in meeting the responsibilities of fatherhood. CPNJ has provided complimentary concert tickets to this group so that families can enjoy our concerts together.

6

Culture is Key Trenton

This organization was founded to build a personal and community wide expectation of excellence for young men and women of color ages 6-18, while raising their self-confidence and self-worth through mentorship-based programming. Our programming is developed to build the knowledge of participants’ culture and access to excellence. CPNJ has provided complimentary tickets to their participants for all of our concerts this past season, helping them to fulfill their goals.

The Passage Theater’s mission is to bring new, theatrical works to Trenton’s community through the production of high-quality, professional productions. Recognizing that we share the same passion for providing the Trenton community with high-quality artistic productions, CPNJ will partner with the guidance of the Passage Theater to produce Igor Stravisnky’s THE SOLDIER’S TALE.

Squad members learn physical techniques, life skills and build trust with teens from other neighborhoods. They lead community engagement through workshops and performances with younger children and families. We are partnering with Trenton Circus Squad for a concert in our 2023-2024 TENTH ANNIVERSARY Season. This will be a concert held at the TCS facilities at Roebling Wireworks and will feature the work of late Trenton resident and composer, George Antheil in conjunction with a performance by the Trenton Circus Squad.

This season we introduced a Chamber Music Concert Series. We offered four concerts and each was performed to near sold-out audiences! We brought chamber music to underserved neighborhoods in Trenton to the delight of local residents. Next season, we plan to expand the series and find more venues in underserved areas in Trenton!
